A technologist with a builder's heart.

Komang Artha YasaKomang Artha Yasa

Hello — I'm a technologist from Bali, Indonesia. I've spent the last two-plus decades building digital platforms across marketplaces, retail, logistics, fintech, and now banking — the kind of systems that need to keep running while the business reinvents itself around them.

My work sits at the intersection of strategy, architecture, and people. I've led multi-year roadmaps, migrated legacy stacks in months, bridging the gap between startup agility and enterprise stability.

I am a lifelong technologist at heart who finds joy in the craft and the conundrum of complexity in it.

Two decades of technology judgment.

This is not a CV. These chapters capture the bets I made, the trade-offs I accepted, and the shifts they produced.

Technology Head

Strategy · Architecture · Infrastructure · Operations · Risk & Prevention

At this stage, the challenge is not modernization alone, but modernization without fragility. I lead 700+ people across 9 cities and run the full technology mandate so execution speed and operational resilience improve together.

  • Scaled delivery from 0.8 to 7.4 daily builds (9x) while reducing defects by 60%.
  • Expanded microservices adoption to 60% across core banking, payments, and digital channels.
  • Increased digital lending throughput from 2K to 80K peak daily applications (39x).
  • Integrated an acquired bank's systems and data in 4 months with zero customer-facing downtime.
  • Commissioned Uptime Institute-certified Tier III data centres to materially raise resilience.
  • Earned The Banker Technology Awards 2025, Payment Category.

Technology Architecture & Digital Development Head

Enterprise Architecture · Technology Standardization · Digital Platforms

The core bet was to build platform discipline before chasing more features. I focused on architecture standards and capability building so the bank could scale digital products with lower complexity.

  • Rebuilt mobile banking to the same capability at 6x lighter footprint (300MB to 50MB).
  • Launched Web Onboarding to improve customer self-service and acquisition flow.
  • Built RM Mobile with offline capability for branch and relationship teams.
  • Raised agile team throughput by 80% through DevOps and automation.
  • Established a three-year blueprint across microservices, streaming data, and infrastructure modernization.

CTO, Strategic Innovation Group

Healthtech · Proptech · Edutech

Inside a large bank, my perspective was that innovation must be distribution-led, not demo-led. I built a startup-speed unit to place the bank in customer moments beyond traditional banking channels.

  • Built and scaled a startup-style team and operating cadence inside the bank.
  • Shipped ecosystem platforms across healthtech, proptech, and edutech.
  • Opened new distribution touchpoints that expanded the bank's customer reach.
  • Integrated platforms into core products so they operated as strategic channels, not side projects.

Chief Technology Officer

Indonesia's first O2O retail platform · Lippo Group

The mandate was to prove O2O retail could work at national scale. I chose speed with operating rigor: launch fast, then harden the platform and supply chain as demand ramped.

  • Built Indonesia's first O2O platform from zero and launched MVP in about 3 months.
  • Handled national launch surge to 25K concurrent users in the first days.
  • Delivered two years of business targets within year one.
  • Scaled engineering from 5 to 100, building hiring, culture, and delivery systems from scratch.
  • Built a multi-tenant cross-docking and last-mile backbone across Lippo retail and external players.
  • Earned IT & Telco Awards 2016 for ecommerce implementation and IT leadership.

Partner & Consultant

Travel · Healthcare · Consulting

This period shaped my judgment on uncertainty. Building ventures and consulting across industries taught me to separate good strategy from good luck, and to design for survival as much as growth.

  • Built ventures in travel and healthcare with direct ownership of product and operations.
  • Delivered tailored technology solutions for telco and hospitality clients.
  • Developed cross-market execution discipline under constrained resources.

Head of Engineering

Previously Tokobagus · Indonesia's Largest Classifieds

At OLX, the bet was that speed and reliability could coexist at marketplace scale. I focused on rebuilding the technical core and team structure fast enough to support hypergrowth without downtime.

  • Completed Microsoft-to-open-source migration in 3 months with zero downtime at 14K new ads/day.
  • Built API and search platforms that supported market leadership at millions-of-users scale.
  • Grew engineering from 2 to 50+ to sustain expansion.
  • Shipped native apps across Android, iOS, Windows Phone, BlackBerry, and J2ME.
  • Built ML-based moderation for spam and fraud detection at classified-ad scale.
  • Received Digital Marketing Award 2012 (Best Great Performing Website).
  • Received Top E-commerce Awards 2012 (Best User Interface).

Partner & Lead Technologist

Technology Service Provider

Here I learned that consistent delivery is a leadership choice, not a process document. I co-founded and scaled the team while building repeatable execution for international clients.

  • Scaled the team 2 → 12, with a strong mentoring culture.
  • Tailored solutions for European clients in digital media and e-commerce.
  • Set up processes for repeatable, on-time delivery.

Software Engineer

CMS · OnlineShop · Web 2.0

This chapter built my engineering fundamentals: ship what works, ship it on time, and make the user journey feel intentional. Those principles have stayed constant even as the technology stack changed.

  • Designed, built, and shipped a wide range of CMS and e-commerce projects.
  • Modern UX principles applied early — when most of the web hadn't caught up yet.
  • Combined dynamic animation and CSS3 craft into engaging, characterful interfaces.
03 — Principles
Hard-won, opinionated

How I build.

P / 01

Strategy is just architecture, drawn larger.

Three-year blueprints, quarterly bets, weekly trade-offs. Same skill, different zoom.

P / 02

Velocity and quality aren't a trade-off.

5× faster delivery and 60% fewer defects, in the same year. The lever is craft, not heroics.

P / 03

Teams scale on culture, not headcount.

2 → 50, 5 → 100, 400 → 700. The shape changes; the principles don't.

P / 04

Bet on platforms, not features.

The features get rewritten; the platforms outlive the org chart.

P / 05

Migrate while the train is running.

Stack swaps, M & A integrations, regulator deadlines — done in months, not years, without dropping a packet.

P / 06

Be a useful nerd.

Geeky enough to read the code, strategic enough to read the room.

Coffee-Holic

Bali single-origin, mostly. Don't talk to me before the second cup.

Failed Musician

The riffs in my head never quite reach my fingers. The career path is recommended.

Die-hard Liverpudlian. Yes, even on the bad days. Especially on the bad days.

Bookworm Biker

Nerdy reader, motorcycle rider — and yes, I've had my fair share of crashes.
